Radha Agrawal has been called a force of nature for her community work. She’s also been named one of the “8 women who will change the world” by MTV. And you can see why. She’s got no shortage of titles. Agrawal is the co-Founder, CEO and Chief Community Architect of Daybreaker, a Co-Founder at THINX & LiveItUp, an author, speaker, DJ, inventor, and investor. She’s also known for pushing the idea of responsible, beneficial, entrepreneurship.
Her latest venture, Daybreaker, is working to make people happier in an incredibly fun way. Daybreaker is a one-hour yoga class followed by two hours of dancing “with reckless abandon” that starts at sunrise. Agrawal muses, “What if we could dance in the morning before going to work, without substances, and create an inclusive environment to connect, self-express and move our bodies with reckless abandon? What if we could make New York City, arguably one of the world’s loneliest cities, a place of community and belonging?”
Yoga and dancing provide humans with the necessary endorphins and other natural chemicals to lead happier, more productive lives. So far, the response has been phenomenal, with more than 450,000 participants in 25 cities around the world. And for those in NYC — there’s one coming right up.
Agrawal further expresses her ideas of empathy and togetherness in her book, “Belong: Find Your People, Create Community, & Live a More Connected Life.” The book is “a blueprint to find their people and build and nurture community, because connectedness — as more and more studies show — is our key to happiness, fulfillment, and success.” Radha Agrawal includes illustrations, quizzes, charts and prompts, and splits the book into two parts. The first is for self-discovery — figuring out your values, ideals, energy levels, etc. And part two teaches individuals to apply what they’ve learned about themselves into a situation that can help them create that sense of community.
Agrawal is an expert at creating spaces of community — which she often does when she speaks at colleges, board rooms, and events.
Her current ventures are, no doubt, based on her past experiences as a community leader and organizer. She co-founded the company THINX, which creates period-proof underwear. She was also the founder of Super Sprowtz, a children’s nutrition edutainment program, where Agrawal wrote at least five children’s books and produced over 100 videos to promote healthy eating. Agrawal also invests with other companies that are committed to making a difference in the world, focusing in on supporting women founders.
As for advice for free-thinking entrepreneurs looking to follow in her footsteps, Agrawal suggests, “Surround your self with FYFs (F*ck Yeah Friends). They will give you wings, inspire and support you. That’s the ultimate secret. Community. If you have naysayers, negative nellies or shoulder shruggers in your life, you’ll never follow your passion.”
She adds, “Also ask yourself: is my idea one of one? Or am I just doing another t-shirt company? Also ask yourself, ‘is this going to support the world meaningfully?’ — the lungs of our planet are on fire. Don’t get into a business just to make money. We need your energy to save our planet and create meaningful products and services.”
The Daybreaker project is constantly developing — so according to Radha Agrawal, keep an eye out for some new features coming soon!
